Michael Mykins, PhD

Dr. Michael Mykins is an Associate Program Officer at the Coalition for Aligning Science (CAS), where he leverages his expertise in neuroscience and computational skills to support the ARIA Initiative, Knowledge Management Workstream, and Open Science Workstream. He is excited to use his skills in data management, collaboration, and systematic thinking to increase the operational efficiency of workflows across CAS’s initiatives and operational workstreams and solve high-impact problems in central nervous system disorders.

Prior to joining CAS, Dr. Mykins was an American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Science and Technology Policy Fellow at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD). In this role, he acted as a lead data scientist within the Referral Program Analysis Branch, where he spearheaded the development and production of artificial intelligence and machine learning applications to increase operational efficiency in accordance with the NICHD’s strategic mission. While in this role, he also served as a referral liaison, subject matter expert on grants related to intellectual disabilities and disorders, and pediatric nutrition and growth.

Dr. Mykins earned his PhD in Biochemistry & Cellular and Molecular Biology with a specialty focus in Computational Neuroscience from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. His research focused on using computational tools such as deep learning and machine learning to phenotype behavioral and cellular correlates of regression in a female mouse model of Rett syndrome. Dr. Mykins’ initial exposure to CAS occurred during his internship with CAS while he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.
